>On Friday night we went to our favorite park, Mt Trashmore. They were holding a amateur astrologers event. They had several telescopes set up from 7-11pm. We arrived with the kids around 9pm. It was great to see so many families out that night. All of the kids running up and down the hill. Nakiah said she loved being out at night. She ran all over the place.
Ava stuck with Charles because she was cold. It was really windy that night. So we came with blankets and coats. She ran halfway up the hill with Nakiah once and decided that was enough.
You already know where Samuel was….he stayed awake listening to and watching the kids run around.
He finally nodded off about 15 minutes before we left.
They had lines for every telescope there, and you were free to move from one to the other.
There were a couple of them set up to see Saturn, but it was a cloudy night so we kept missing it.
I have never seen the moon like that. It was amazing. It looked as if the moon were sitting right in the palm of your hand.
The girls thought it was really cool. You could see all of the detail of the moon, including the craters. I think we had as much fun as the kids did.
For the past week, Charles has taken her alone, or all three kids for walks around the block once it gets dark. They love it! They always come back in the house telling me about their adventures.
The girls keep saying they want to go camping. I’m not sure I can handle that. I need a cabin or something.
That may be something just for daddy/daughter day.
The girls have also been fascinated by the stars. It’s been fun standing outside with them talking about the constellations from time to time. I think we’ll get some books from the library on the moon and stars.
What about you, do you do anything special with your family outdoors after dark? Oh, and did you catch that awesome big, bright moon last night? It was shining right down into our backyard.
